The Kurdish Language Department at the University of Garmian organized the 8th Aran Literary Festival, with sponsorship from the German Cooperation Organization (GIZ). The event was attended by Professor Dr. Arass F. Zainal, President of the University, along with vice presidents, deans of the Colleges of Basic Education and Science, as well as a large gathering of faculty and students.

In his opening speech, Professor Dr. Zainal congratulated the organizers and emphasized the significance of the festival in highlighting student talent in poetry and storytelling. “Literature and culture form the foundation of a nation’s civilization. A nation rich in literature possesses a strong cultural identity,” he stated. “At the University of Garmian, we believe that our students and youth are the source of innovation and fresh ideas.”

He also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting cultural and scientific activities: “As the university, we pledge to continue supporting such initiatives and to remain devoted to nurturing culture, knowledge, and the creative potential of our young people.”

The first day of the festival featured poet and novelist Hiwa Qadir as a special guest. Continuing a cherished tradition, the Aran Personality Award was also presented during the festival to honor an individual for their contributions to literature and culture.
